the giants were home and playing. hey giants. i got off at the embarcadero station to wait for out bound in bound train. when i looked at the schedule board it said the next one would be 45 minutes. there were several people waiting and we continued to wait as 2m and 2k cars and j and t cars went by. i realized those with me were also waiting for n car. i called three one one which is a wonderful efficient customer service related system. i was given someone i was told taking calls related to muni. he said he knew nothing about a delay in n cars had he had not been informed or received calls about any delay. as he was checking in and an inbound n car went past me towards the ballpark and the cal train. i told that to the three one one operator and by the time it came back to the embarcadero station after being by the ballpark and the people waiting patiently except for me at the embarcadero station would do well to get on the train much less get a seat. he was a pol gettic and he assured me he noted my call. within five minutes an out bound train came in to the embarcadero station

embarcadero and reestablish the street as the premiere cultural civic transportation and economic center of san francisco and of the bay area region. we have identified some specific goals around place, mobility and economic development. in our project approach, we're looking at the street as one street, with six unique districts, and really three major public spaces that punctuate that street, those being embarcadero, holiday plaza and un plaza. the street has one identity, two key components within that identity, one around place-making, really what is market street as a place, what is its identity, what is its public space hierarchy, what's happening in the major public spaces today, and what's really happening within these unique districts as well. transportation, we're looking to enhance the continuous bicycle facility, transit efficiency, reconfiguring of the somewhat awkward intersection and reduction of conflict between all street users. as we look at the six district along the corridor they come to light currently in this breakdown. the embarcadero district which is the city's conn

and i wasn't on the embarcadero and seemed to work well and i want to thank the port staff for their great job this weekend as well and give us confidence what we will see next year for the finals and the america's cup and i wouldn't be surprised if they said let's do it on the same weekend as fleet week again and it would be much. >> i echo the comments of my colleagues and was around the city and bumped into them and they were working hard and we owe you a great deal of thanks making this weekend come off so l i think i said at the last meeting this would be a real test and once we got through it and next year's america's cup will be a piece of cake hopefully and i want to thank the city family and staff and coordinating and working together and that in large measure made it work well and the coordination with muni and setting up the bicycle lanes and other modes of transit. i took muni to get down here and was amazed how easy it was and smooth and as director moyer said everyone was having a good time so that was nice to see and the tourists and everyone else enjoy tg and the weat

, and parts of fisherman's wharf. for car has the embarcadero and north beach. the central district is a truly a center of business, commerce, and tourism. we are home to 20,000 hotel rooms in our district and have 24 schools and 24 parks and or playgrounds in the district. this is in a very small geographical area. we average 5500 calls per service per month. we cover union square, chinatown, the financial district, north beach, russian hill, telegraph hill, the embarcadero and fisherman's wharf. our main supervisor is supervisor david chiu and supervisor marc farrell has a pocket and supervisor james kim has a pocket along geary street. the population is about 75,000 residents in a 1.8 square mile area. on any given day, the population swells to about 350,000 people because of all the people coming to work in the financial district. the demographics in the central district -- female is about 50%, males 49.8%. it's almost even. age 17 and under is 17.56% which equates to about 5300 people under 17. our senior population is twice that much or approximately 11,500. caucasian -- 46%. afr

embarcadero. the embarcadero has been a traffic hotspot all day. part of the reason the right- hand lane from washington to bay street is off limits to cars reserved for bicycles and emergency vehicles. now, congestion is expected on the golden gate and bay bridges hasn't panned out. traffic did slow down though outside of the bluegrass festival at golden gate park but overall, spectators heeded the city's call to take advantage of mass transit's expanded service and we came across people who rode their bicycles like this father and son. did you encounter any traffic anywhere? >> not at all. it was actually really good. i think people listened to the warnings and they stayed off the roads. >> we just left our car at the hotel and walk or took a cab an chased down the taxi. >> reporter: tomorrow could be busier. san francisco will host another event, the blue angels, bluegrass festival, sunday's agenda adding an afternoon 9ers game, street festivals and italian heritage parade. people are taking mass transit. bart is reporting a 27% increase of ridership this saturday over last saturday,

will be partially closed. take for example, embarcadero, where we're standing. it's going to be down to one lane of traffic northbound the entire weekend. to avoid congestion, setting out on foot may be your best bet. an estimated 1 million people are expected to flock to san francisco this weekend. while there will be more buses, ferries, even temporary bike lanes to accommodate all the visitors, there is another way to get around town. >> walking is a viable option to get around this weekend. we've got a lot of people out there, lot of ambassadors out there to give people information, and walking to these events is a very good option. >> reporter: you could start at golden gate park for the hardly strictly bluegrass festival. catch the first set at 11:00, then begin the hike to marina green. that's where the america's cup village is located. it opens at 10:00. according to google maps, that walk is just under 5 miles and would take you about an hour and a half. from there, it's an easier 3-mile, one-hour walk to the embarcadero. first air show starts at 12:30 tomorrow. if you don't st

this weekend the embarcadero northbound lanes one lane shut from washington to bay for bicyclists hoping that would eliminate bikes and pedestrians with all the events if you are coming to the city you might want to make alternate plans that will not be a good route. bart extra trains for the events this weekend. golden gate ferry added another giant boat for the giants' playoff game many muni as extra buses. pardon my voice i'm still a little shakey from the a's game the other day. we'll be back with more in a bit. >>> a lot more on that coming up. if you are filling your gas this morning, bay area gas prices are leaping toward record levels. terry mcsweeney is live in menlo park with new numbers. >> reporter: they are saying we haven't seen nothing yet. take a look at prices here at this gas station in menlo park many you can see the $5.05 for self-serve regular. lower right hand corner, $5.79 full serve supreme. if you want go that route, you can. folks, it is not this bad everywhere else but it is heading this way. take a look at some prices average prices around the bay area

the embarcadero with a look ahead. one busy spot. >> reporter: it is going to be interesting. this is going to be a tough spot because the crowds will be thick. there's a nice wide sidewalk here but they expect this to be packed with pedestrians. so, where to put the bicyclists? city officials are going to try a novel idea. northbound lane on the embarcadero closed down, just for bicyclists. they think it is good because they want to keep them often sidewalk away from the pedestrians. there are -- there are signs around the embarcadero flashing now warning people of how crowded it is going to be. the plan for the bicyclists has not been widely publicized this is a new idea. they are going to shutdown a lane between bay and washington starting tomorrow. really, the message is, just don't even try to drive a car down here on the embarcadero this weekend. the elite flight team will take to the skies saturday and sunday afternoon. some of the pilots say san francisco is one of their favorite cities to fly over. they ever a big event not necessarily the main event. they will be sharing the

the embarcadero was one of the areas and that is closed throughout the weekend and turning it into a bicycle and emergency vehicle access lane. and some congestion on the golden gate and bay bridges and not bad, actually. and congestion is nan existent, signaling a lot of people are taking public transportation as we have been advised and 15,000 people took the ferry from the area yesterday. five times. b.a.r.t. had the third busiest weekend day ever with 263,000 passengers. while muni reported a 27% jump in ridership with the e decision of the 49ers game this afternoon at candle stick park and local leaders are urging visitors to speak with public transit and all events can cause the major headaches and we're watching for. >> and start at 12:30, parts of columbus avenue will be blocked off for the italian heritage parade. the embarcadero closure combined with the 6:30 pitch for tonight's giants reds game and expected to cause congestion near 2ityet and area as well. watch out on that. 19th avenue and golden gate bridge are clogged up following the bluegrass festival, wrapping up at

the embarcadero, it is going to be jam-packed with cars. it should be some good views. i have already got a good one behind me. i'm not sure you can see it through this fence but we have a big old navy vessel and some of the sailing yachts for fleet week. it's going to be a busy loud weekend at least if yesterday was any indication. listen in. embarcadero bart station is closed after someone was hit on the train tracks. jade hernandez is live in the city with what is going on like now. >> reporter: ken we know there is a 15-20 minute delay going through the transbay tube tonight. i will receive a phone call as soon as the embarcadero station re-opens. riders discovered the gate closed a few hours ago. >> no, it's just completely blocked off down there and we didn't try to walk down the stairs. >> we're not able to take the train back. i'm look at my gps to find ways to get back to dublin. >> we're trying to get on ac transit and get on the bridge? >> it happened last year? >> yeah. >> reporter: after we we interviewed sarah webb the woman you just heard from she found she could get home by going to the montgomery station. we have checked with the bart spokesperson james allison who explained that witnesses say a man jumped in front of the train causing the delay. now jim allison tells us that he estimates 1,000 to 2,000 riders have been affected tonight. san francisco police confirmed that the person found on the tracks died. but

, because a lot of this weekend's events are happening there, and we are live alone the embarcadero where things are getting busy. >> reporter: if you can avoid driving to san francisco, that would be a really good idea to leave your car at home of the we just had someone come up and say that she was charged $45 to park down in the embarcadero, so parking is at a high premium, at not only will the streets be crowded, some will be closed, like the embarcadero, for the entire weekend, it's going to be just one lane of traffic heading northbound. you can see the cars slowing down. in the right-hand lane, that's an expanded bike line. of the bicycle coalition will offer free bike valet service, another reason why they're encouraging people to bike or walk here. and if you want to get to san francisco by sea there, are a total 8 ferries, running from oakland, alameda to vallejo. normally there are three, so they are stepping up efforts so people can get here more easily. ferry managers say they expect to transport 10 to 12,000 people this weekend. >> free parking in the east bay, a wonde
